Equipment

  • Mixie or Blender

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Fresh and ripe mango cubes (I have used 4 to 5 small mangoes) You can use frozen mangoes or mango pulp.
  • 2 cups Plain yogurt or Dahi
  • ½ cup Whole milk, cold (to thin out lassi, you can use water instead to adjust consistency or cream to make it rich)
  • ¼ cup Sugar ( 2 to 4 tbsp) Adjust based on sweetness of mangoes
  • 2 Cardamom pods (crushed and powdered, approx ¼ tsp)
  • 6 to 8 Saffron strands or kesar
  • Pistachios, to garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Peel and cut the fresh mango into cubes. Add it to the blender or mixie.
2 cups Fresh and ripe mango cubes (I have used 4 to 5 small mangoes)
  • Add cold dahi or yogurt to the blender or mixie jar.
2 cups Plain yogurt or Dahi
  • To enhance the flavor, add spices like cardamom powder (elaichi) and/or saffron (kesar).
2 Cardamom pods (crushed and powdered, approx ¼ tsp), 6 to 8 Saffron strands or kesar
  • Add chilled whole milk to thin down the lassi. You can use water, skim milk or 2% milk also.
    ½ cup Whole milk, cold
  • Add sugar. Adjust the amount of sugar depending on the sweetness of the mangoes.
    ¼ cup Sugar ( 2 to 4 tbsp)
  •  Blend all the ingredients together. Blend till the mixture is smooth and creamy. At this stage, taste the lassi and adjust the sweetness.
  • Pour the mango smoothie or lassi straight into the serving glass. Serve cold and fresh for best results. Garnish with pistachios or saffron.
    Pistachios, to garnish, optional

Notes

  • Want to taste the traditional mango lassi? For best results, I highly recommend using fresh, sweet, and ripe mangoes. Only if not in season, use frozen mangoes or canned mango pulp.
  • You can even skip the addition of saffron and cardamom powder entirely.
  • Lassi tastes the best when served chilled. Make sure the yogurt, milk, and mango cubes are cold. You may also add ice cubes - but it will thin down the lassi as it melts.
  • When using greek yogurt to prepare lassi, use more milk or water to thin the lassi to desired consistency.
  • If you have all the ingredients, this lassi can be prepared in less than 5 minutes. I highly recommend you make this lassi and serve it fresh for the best taste. If there are any leftovers, keep them in the fridge and consume them within 24 hours.
  • Feel free to skip the garnish, as it is optional. You can garnish the lassi with any roasted and chopped nuts of your choice, mint leaves, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, etc.
