- 1 Puff Pastry Sheets
- 1 Apple thinly sliced lengthwise
- 5 slices Gouda cheese check tips for alternatives
- 4 tablespoon Sugar to sprinkle, vary to taste
- 1 Egg
Step I
Follow the instructions on the pastry sheet box to thaw the sheet.
1 Puff Pastry Sheets
Whisk an egg and keep it aside. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
1 Egg
Once the puff pastry sheet is thawed, unfold it on a lightly dusted working surface and roll it to a 12-inch by 12-inch square using a rolling pin.
Cut them into 9 squares of 4-inch x 4-inch each.
Step II
Cut each cheese slice into half. Place this at the center of each pastry square
5 slices Gouda cheese
Now place 2 to 3 apple slices on top of the cheese and sprinkle some sugar.
1 Apple, 4 tablespoon Sugar
Fold 2 opposite corners to meet at the middle of the pastry and pinch them together.
Brush the pastry with egg wash and sprinkle some more sugar over the pastry.
Applying egg wash gives it a beautiful golden color upon baking.
Place each one of these on the baking sheet and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until it is golden brown in color.
Apple Cheese Danish is now ready. Serve and enjoy.
For Starbucks-style cheese danish instead of gouda cheese, you will have to use cream cheese in the recipe. I had baked it recently, but it got disappeared in no time. :-)
- Beat 1 egg in a bowl, to this add 8 oz of cream cheese, 4 tablespoon sugar, ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon lemon juice, and beat this until smooth and creamy.
- Fill 1 to 2 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture at the center in place of gouda cheese in each pastry and top it with apples.
- Follow the same method for shaping and baking as above.
