Indian Mithai Trifle Dessert

Mithai Trifle is a beautiful and classic fusion dessert recipe that combines popular Indian sweets such as gulab jamun, rasgulla, jalebi, barfi, and ladoo with layers of whipping cream, crumbled cake, and nuts. A stunning and crowd-pleaser recipe at Diwali and Christmas.

Equipment

Ingredients

For the cream

  • 2 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2-3 Cardamom pods
  • 8 Saffron strands kesar
  • 1 cup Whipping cream

For crumbled cake

Mithai (Sweets) chopped. Use your favorite sweet assortment

Other ingredients

  • Pistachios, for garnish
  • Rose petals, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a mixie jar or blender, add sugar, cardamom pods, and saffron and blend it to a smooth powder.
    2 tablespoon Sugar, 2-3 Cardamom pods, 8 Saffron strands
  • In a bowl, add whipping cream and powdered sugar and whisk until stiff peaks are formed.
    1 cup Whipping cream
  • In a blender, add cake slices and pulse for seconds.
    2 Sponge cake slices
  • Use your favorite mithai and chop or crumble them into small bite-size pieces.
    1 Besan ladoo, 2 Rasgulla, 2 Gulab jamun, 1 Milk barfi, 1 Motichoor ladoo, 1 or 2 Jalebi

Assemble

  • In a serving glass, add a layer of cake crumbs, followed by a layer of sweets and then whipped cream. Garnish with pistachios and rose petals.

  • Repeat the same layers one more time.
  • Chill until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Based on the size of the serving glass, you may have to assemble the layers. You can make two big servings or four individual servings with the recipe given.
  • Instead of cake crumbles, cookie crumbles, custard, or jelly can be added.
  • You can make this mithai trifle even after diwali with all the leftover sweets.
  • I have flavored whipped cream with saffron and cardamom. It is optional. You can simply add vanilla extract instead.
