Equipment

Ingredients

For Tofu Marinade

  • 7 oz Extra-firm Tofu block 200-300g
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste 3 garlic cloves, and 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1-2 teaspoon Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Red chile powder

Other ingredients

  • 2 to 3 tablespoon Oil
  • Seasame seeds for garnish

Instructions

How to marinate tofu?

  • Cut the pressed tofu into cubes or slices, then transfer it to a shallow dish or a baking dish.
    7 oz Extra-firm Tofu block
  • In another small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, vinegar, honey, ginger-garlic paste, oil, and red chile powder.
2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp Vinegar, 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste, 1-2 tsp Honey, 1 tsp Oil, ½ tsp Red chile powder
  • Pour the marinade over the tofu and gently coat every piece. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. For maximum flavor, you can marinate for 8 hours or overnight.

Pan-fried marinated tofu

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Place the marinated tofu pieces in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.
    2 to 3 tbsp Oil
  • Pour any leftover marinade and stir to coat. Best served with steamed rice.

Baked marinated tofu

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the tofu cubes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, then flip and bake for another 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  • If you have extra marinade, immediately fry the baked tofu in leftover marinade in a skillet for 2 minutes.

Air fryer marinated tofu

  • Place the tofu pieces on a single layer in the air fryer basket and air fry at 400 degrees F for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket after 8 minutes.
  • For extra flavor, you can pour the leftover marinade over the pan-fried pieces and pan-fry for 2 minutes.

Notes

Always use extra-firm or medium-firm tofu. It will absorb the flavor better. Silken or soft tofu will not work. It will fall apart and will not become crispy.
Marinate overnight for best flavor.
Don't skip the pressing. It's the biggest factor in flavor absorption and texture.
Don't overcrowd the pan.
The color of the marinated tofu varies based on the type of soy sauce used.
For a deep flavor boost, toss the crispy tofu in leftover marinade and sauté for a minute.
