Chicken Karahi | Kadai Chicken Curry Recipe

Chicken Karahi (Kadai Chicken Curry) is a simple and easy-to-make chicken dish popular for its aromatic and spicy flavors. Serve this with naan, roti, chapati, or jeera rice for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 500 g Chicken thighs
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chile powder
  • 2 Onions sliced
  • 4 Garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger chopped
  • 3 to 4 Green chilies slit
  • 2 tablespoon Cilantro coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • ¾ teaspoon Salt adjust to taste
  • 2 Tomatoes sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Butter

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a pan on a medium flame. Add cumin seeds and saute until fragrant.

  • Add chicken thighs, turmeric powder, and red chile powder, and fry for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  • Add onions to the same pan and saute for about 5 minutes.

  • Add garlic cloves and ginger chopped and saute for 3 to 4 minutes.

  • Add the fried chicken, green chilies, and cilantro and mix well.

  • Cover and cook this for 5 minutes.
  • Add garam masala powder and salt, and mix.

  • Now add tomato slices and mix well. Cover and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Finally, add butter and mix. Garnish with more cilantro and ginger juliennes.

Notes

  • To make the authentic, old-fashioned chicken karahi, skip the onions in the recipe.
  • Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight conatiner for 3-4 days.
