How long to roast a whole chicken?
Bake the chicken in a preheated 400-degree oven for 60 to 90 minutes until the internal temperature of the thigh and breast reaches 165 degrees F. (The time to roast chicken will vary based on the bird size, so roast the chicken till the internal temperature reaches the safe 165 degrees F)
Baste with the melted butter in the baking pan every 15 minutes.
Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
- Some oven gets smoky at higher temperatures. In this case, reduce the temperature and cook for an extra 15 to 20 minutes.
- Make ahead instructions: You can stuff the chicken and spread the herbed butter. Cover and keep it in the refrigerator a day earlier until ready to roast.
- Leftover: Leftover roasted chicken can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- If you find it difficult to spread the softened butter, microwave it for 15 seconds, melt it, and then apply it on the surface.
