    BATATE GOJJU

Modified: Feb 25, 2023 · Published: Jul 20, 2015 by Kushi · This post may contain affiliate links · 6 Comments

Batate Gojju is delicious and popular konkani dish that can be served alone or as dip or even with steamed rice. This is prepared using potato and yogurt. I call it Indian style mashed potatoes. I love the aroma of hing, flavor of garlic, crunchiness of urad dal, chana dal, cashews and spiciness of green chilli very much in this dish. I have served it as dip with baked falafel.

    Batate Gojju

    Preparation time : 15 minutes
    Serves : 3

    Ingredients for Batate Gojju

    Potatoes - 3
    Yogurt / Curd - ½ cup

Small Green chillies - 2 (adjust as per your taste)
    Salt to taste
    Coriander leaves for garnish

    For the tempering
Coconut Oil / Vegetable Oil - 1 tbsp
    Curry leaves - 1 tbsp
    Urad dal - 1 tsp
    Chana Dal - 1 tbsp
    Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida or Hing - ¼ tsp
    Broken cashews - 1 tbsp

    Steps to prepare Batate Gojju

    • Tempering : Heat oil in pan. add the mustard seeds when they start to splutter add the urad dal, chana dal and cashews and saute till golden in color. Now add hing and curry leaves, saute and switch of the flame.
    • Add this tempering to the gojju and mix well. garnish it with coriander leaves.
    • Batate gojju is now ready. Serve and enjoy.

    Tip:

    • Adjust the water depending on how you like to have it (as dip or as mashed potatoes).
    • Vary the amount of green chillies as per your taste.
