Puff Pastry Pizza Recipe | Savory Puff Pastry Tart

Puff pastry pizza is one of the best, easy-to-make recipes for your dinner in less than 30 minutes. Enjoy the flaky, buttery crust that adds a unique twist to pizza with mushroom, margherita, or any pizza toppings you choose. A simple and delicious alternative to your traditional pizza crust.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 Puff pastry sheets
  • ½ cup Pizza sauce
  • 1 to 1 ¼ cups Pizza toppings, approx Use as needed
  • 1 cup Grated cheese, approx (You can use mozzarella, cheddar, or provolone). Use as needed
  • 1 Egg (You can use milk or cream, or olive oil instead of egg for brushing the edges.)

Pizza toppings that I have used

  • ½ Onion, sliced
  • ¾ Capsicum or Bell peppers, sliced
  • 6 to 8 Mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 Garlic, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • Cheese
  • 2 tablespoon Cilantro or Basil leaves or Parsley

Instructions

  • Follow the instruction on the pastry sheets box to thaw the sheets.

Prepare the toppings

  • Feel free to use any toppings of your choice.
    1 to 1 ¼ cups Pizza toppings, approx
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan. Add chopped garlic cloves and saute for a few seconds.
    2 Garlic, sliced, 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • Now add the chopped mushrooms pinch of salt if desired, and continue sauteing for 3 to 4 minutes till the mushrooms are cooked.
    6 to 8 Mushrooms, sliced

Bake puff pastry pizza or puff pastry tarts

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Roll the puff pastry sheets using a rolling pin until they are about an inch longer on both sides.
  • Transfer this to a silicone mat or baking tray lined with parchment paper. 
  • Prick the pastry with a fork gently to prevent it from puffing up while baking.
  • Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce leaving around the edges and add the prepared toppings. Spread grated cheese.
    ½ cup Pizza sauce, ½ Onion, sliced, ¾ Capsicum or Bell peppers, sliced, Cheese, 1 cup Grated cheese, approx
  • In a small bowl, crack an egg, add 1 tablespoon of water, and beat well. Apply egg wash along the edges of the pastry, as this will give it a beautiful golden brown color upon baking. Use olive oil or milk for a vegetarian version.

  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown. Allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing!
  • Garnish it with fresh herbs before serving, and enjoy. 
    2 tablespoon Cilantro or Basil leaves or Parsley

Notes

  • If you make this for the party, you can also make puff pastry pizza bites. Just cut the puff pastry sheet into 6 or 8 squares and then bake it so you can serve it as a finger food or appetizer.
  • Only add a little sauce to your puff pastry sheet. Else it may make your base soggy.
  • Try our mushroom pizza or caramelized onion topping for the pizza.

Variations

  • Mediterranean Puff Pastry Pizza - spread a layer of hummus. Top it with olives, feta, and tomato. Drizzle with olive oil before baking.
  • BBQ Chicken Puff Pastry Pizza - toss the cooked chicken in your favorite bbq sauce. Spread a thin layer of sauce on a puff pastry sheet. Top this with bbq chicken, onions, and mozzarella cheese.
  • Caprese Puff Pastry Pizza - spread a layer of pesto sauce followed by fresh tomato slices, cheese slices, and fresh basil. Drizzle balsamic vinegar for that signature look and taste.
  • Margherita Puff Pastry Pizza - spread a layer of pizza sauce followed by fresh tomato, cheese slices, and torn basil leaves.
  • Mexican-inspired Puff Pastry Pizza - add a layer of refried beans and top with shredded chicken cheese, olives, fresh cilantro, and some taco seasoning.
