Equipment

Ingredients

Panchamrut 5 ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk Doodh
  • ¼ cup Curd Yogurt or Dahi
  • 2 tablespoon Ghee Clarified butter
  • 2 tablespoon Honey Madhu
  • 2 tablespoon Sugar
  • Holy Basil Tulsi, optional

Instructions

  • Follow the same panchamrut recipe for pooja and panchamrit abhishek during janmashtami, shivratri, ganesh chaturthi, etc.
  • Make a jalabhisheka over the idol first with clean water. Place holy basil. (optional)
    Holy Basil
  • After that, I have done a jalabhishek (total of ¼ cup) after adding every panchamrit item. This is optional. You can add all the items and then do a jalabhiskeka at the end.
  • Pour the milk over the diety, followed by little jalabhishek.
    1 cup Milk
  • Next, add yogurt or dahi to the idol and again some jalabhishek.
    ¼ cup Curd
  • Add ghee to the idol and again pour some water.
    2 tablespoon Ghee
  • Add honey and some jalabhisheka
    2 tablespoon Honey
  • Add sugar and, finally, jalabhisheka. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Keep this aside.
    2 tablespoon Sugar
  • Pour your idol with more clean water.
  • Perform flower decorations, and after naivedyam, aarti, serve this panchamrit to the devotees.
  • We offer panchakajjaya or sheera and dry fruits for naivedyam during any pooja or festivals, and during Ganesh Chaturthi, modak and appe are also prepared.
  • To see the positive results in any puja you do, shraddha, bhakti, aur vishwas (faith, devotion, and trust) is very important above all.

Notes

  • Jalabhisheka is performed in temples after adding every item from your panchamirit. You can skip if the idol is very small while making pooja at home. In Mangalore Udupi regions, tender coconut is also used instead of water.
  • This style of panchamrit is totally different from the Palani temple style panchamirtham prasadamprepared using jaggery, banana, dates, etc.
  • Make sure you use pure ingredients and clean and fresh utensils while making puja.
  • Panchamrit must be served within 3 to 4 hours. Any leftovers will not taste good afterward, and you must discard them to the tulsi plant or under the coconut tree.
  • Instead of doing abhisheka, some also pour all the ingredients of panchamrut into a bowl and mix. Do naivedyam and offer it to devotees.
  • All five ingredients are a must, and there is no substitute.
Tip by mom: If you have leftovers after offering to devotees, you can make Mangalore banana buns with them.
