These easy no-bake rum balls or oreo balls are the best & classic Christmas dessert you will make this holiday season. This recipe requires just 4 ingredients, and if you have all ingredients in your kitchen, then rum balls are ready in less than 15 minutes.
All you have to do is keep it in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before serving for the best flavors.
What are rum balls?
Traditionally rum balls are truffle-like sweet treats prepared using vanilla wafers, pecans, confectioners sugar, cocoa, syrup or honey, and rum.
I have prepared a shortcut method using oreo cookies, rum, cream, and some nuts.
Rum balls toppings
I have decorated it with sprinkles. You can dust with confectioners sugar, cocoa powder, shredded coconut, or even dip it in white or milk or dark chocolate.
Do rum balls contain alcohol?
Yes, these sweet treat balls are made by adding rum, and that is how this dessert gets its name. Unlike RUM CAKE, Rum Balls are a no-bake dessert, and therefore the alcohol does not cookout.
But don't worry about this. Rum balls will not get you drunk as the rum is combined with other ingredients, and thus they are in small amounts in each ball.
How long can I keep rum balls?
Rum balls are among the best desserts you can make during the holiday season and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Rum balls are also one of the best Christmas holiday gift ideas for your family and friends, along with EGGLESS FRUTI CAKE or TRADITIONAL RUM CAKE.

Take one tablespoon of mixture between your palms and roll them into balls. Roll each ball into sprinkles or cocoa powder. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving for the best flavor.
Tips:
- If you feel the rum ball mixture is too soft and not holding its shape, crush and add more cookies to the mixture. On the other hand, if you are not able to form balls, add more cream or rum until it is able to hold its shape.
- I had Oreo cookies with cream, and thus I did not add any confectioners sugar. You can use vanilla wafers or graham crackers instead of Oreos and add confectioners sugar along with some cocoa powder to make rum balls.
- Instead of almonds, pecans, walnuts, or cashews can be used.
- You can use bourbon or whiskey instead of rum.
Can I make rum balls alcohol-free?
Yes, you can make it kid-friendly by substituting rum with rum extract for flavor and adding heavy cream as needed until the mixture holds its shape.
