Layered Jello Dessert | How To Make Jelly

Jump to Recipe Jump to Video Print Recipe

Layered Jello Dessert is the simplest and easiest homemade 3-layered jello treat. This dessert will be a crowd-pleaser at your party. Serve this tri-color jelly for 15th August, Indian Independence Day, Republic Day, or Diwali.

    How to make 3-layered jello?

To make this 3 layered jello dessert, you can use any flavored jello mix to get the colors you want. I use agar-agar or unflavored gelatin mixed with milk, cream, and vanilla extract for the white-colored jello layer. Putting everything together is easy, it is time-consuming because after creating every layer, you will have to wait an hour for it to set. This will help you to layer the jello without mixing.

    Tricolor jello

Today's post is about tri-colored jello, which represents the Indian flag. It is one of the best recipes for Indian Independence Day and Republic Day.

Also, don't miss to check out our tri-color Indian national flag cake and tri-color pasta recipes for this patriotic holiday. I have also made similar tri-colored jello representing the American flag for the 4th of July. You can check that out here.

    Ingredients

For the saffron and green layer, I have used a green and orange jello box mix. These are available as jelly crystals in India. The goal was to create the tri-color Indian flag jello for Independence Day.

To make the white layer, Use china grass or agar agar, whipping cream, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract.

Check out the recipe card for the full list of the ingredients.

    Step-by-step instructions

    For the green layer

    • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, add box of jello crystals, and mix.
    • Pour it to the serving glass, approximately filling them ⅓ way through. Keep this in refrigerator for 1 hour.

    For the saffron layer

    • In the pan, bring 2 cups of water to boil. Add a box full of orange jello crystals and mix. (To make the Indian flag color deep orange, add one pinch of orange food coloring while mixing the box mix.)
    • Pour this saffron (orange) color on top of the white layer and keep it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
    • The jello will be ready to be served in 1 hour. Jello tastes the best when served chilled.

    Pro tips

    • Present this jello in shot glasses or mini single-serving cups, or make three layers in a single pan, one after another, and cut them into desired shapes. Plan how you want to present before you start working on the first layer. The rest is super easy.

    Recipe FAQ

How to layer jello without it mixing?

To get the beautiful layers without mixing, you must set the layers one after the other. The bottom layer should be firm before pouring the next one.

    Jello vs Jelly

In the United States of America and Canada, jelly is often called jell-O. A generic name for gelatin dessert.
