    About the recipe

The traditional method of making appe or paniyaram requires you to soak and grind rice. This is specially prepared during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, sankashti in Mangalore Udupi regions. Check out the complete recipe for making konkani-style traditional appe (paniyaram or appo).

Today's post is all about quick, easy, and instant appe, also called appam or paniyaram, which can be served as an evening snack or after-meal dessert prepared using wheat flour and ripe bananas.

To make appe or paniyaram you will need appe pan, Æbleskiver pan or the paniyaram chatti. If you do not have any of these, you can still make the batter and cook instant mini banana pancakes on your skillet.

Check out the list of easy Indian evening snack recipes.

Sweet paniyaram (appe) in a pan made with wheat flour, ripe bananas, and jaggery - Indian dessert.

    Ingredients

To make quick and instant appe you will need basic ingredients like wheat flour or atta, banana, jaggery for the batter, and desi ghee for cooking.

Wheat flour: for the instant version of banana appe, I have used wheat flour only. You can add 2 tablespoon of rice flour, sooji or semolina, or poha powder for a temple-style appe texture. Check the full recipe on temple style appe.

Bananas: I have used two medium-sized ripe bananas. Suppose using a long banana; then, one is sufficient. Banana makes your appe soft.

Jaggery: Traditionally, to make sweet appe, jaggery is used. But you can easily substitute it with sugar or brown sugar.

Baking soda: Pinch is added so that the appe becomes fluffy and not flat.

    Cardamom powder: For authentic flavor.

Ghee: Do not cook these sweet appe with oil. It tastes the best when you cook it with Indian desi ghee.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
