Ravioli in Pasta Sauce is a super delicious and flavorful recipe that everyone must try! The recipe is super simple to make and comes together in under 30 minutes, making it a perfect dish for a quick, hassle-free dinner. Each serving is about 400 calories.
I prepared this dish using Fried ravioli - which had a stuffing of mushrooms and cheese. You can also use store-bought fresh/frozen ravioli. You have the choice to boil/bake/fry them. Follow the package instructions for the best results.
For the sauce, you can use store-bought roasted garlic pasta sauce, or you can prepare the sauce from scratch at home. You can even add roasted garlic paste to any store-bought pasta sauce. No matter what path you choose, I am sure you will love each and every single bite of this dish.
The cheese and mushroom-filled ravioli combined with the roasted garlic pasta sauce makes this dish simply irresistible. The aroma that comes out of the sauce is just amazing. This easy ravioli in pasta sauce recipe is perfect for busy weeknight dinners. Do give this a try, and let us know how it turned out!
How to make homemade roasted garlic pasta sauce?
First, roast the garlic. There are many easy ways to roast garlic. I really love the following informative post on roast garlic in quick and easy ways.
Next, prepare the pasta sauce. In a large pan on medium heat, add olive oil and chopped onions. Saute the onions until they turn light golden in color, which should take about 8 minutes.
To this, add chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned) and cover and cook for 8 to 10 mins. When the tomatoes turn soft, add the roasted garlic and let it cook for 2 minutes.
Add Italian seasoning, salt, and fresh herbs such as basil, and give it a good stir. Remove from heat and let it cool for 10 minutes. Use an immersion blender (or regular blender) to obtain a smooth paste from this mixture. Homemade roasted garlic pasta sauce is ready to be used in any dish.
How to Infuse the Store-Bought Pasta Sauce with Roasted Garlic Flavor?
Roast the garlic using your preferred approach. Add the roasted garlic and the store-bought pasta in a pan, bring it to a boil, and let it simmer for 5 mins. You can use the sauce right away in your dish.
If you want a more intense garlic flavor, then let the sauce cool for 10 minutes. Then puree the sauce using a regular blender (or immersion blender).
Ingredients for Ravioli in Pasta Sauce Recipe
- Roasted garlic pasta sauce or any pasta sauce of your choice. I have used Barilla's Roasted Garlic Sauce. You can also use homemade pasta sauce.
- Cayenne Powder or Red chili powder for spiciness. While this is optional, adding a pinch enhances the flavor of the final dish.
- Basil leaves and Italian seasoning for authentic Italian flavors. You can use dried or fresh Italian basil. Rosemary, Thyme, Marjoram, etc., can be used in place of store-bought Italian seasoning.
- Onion and Garlic are the aromatic vegetables used in the recipe. They also add texture to the sauce. Use roasted garlic to infuse the pasta sauce with garlic flavor.
- Olive oil and Butter are used for sauteing and adding rich and authentic flavor to the dish. These can be replaced with vegetable oil.
- Parmesan cheese adds a unique nuttiness to the sauce. It is also used for garnish. Use your favorite cheese here.
- Fried/Boiled Ravioli is the main component of this recipe. Use store-bought or homemade ravioli. Check here for a homemade fried ravioli recipe.
- Coriander leaves and spring onions are used for garnish. Use any herbs of your choice.

Expert Chef Tips
- Fresh ravioli always tastes best in any recipe. But if you are in a pinch, feel free to use store-bought/frozen ravioli. Follow the package instructions to cook the ravioli.
- Ravioli stuffed with a combination of cheeses, cream cheese, ricotta cheese, basil pesto, sauteed/blanched spinach, meat such as beef/pork/chicken, lobster, crab, prawns/shrimp, pumpkin, butternut squash, mushrooms, etc. These stuffings complement well with the sauce.
- To make this sauce creamy, add a splash of heavy cream. Add some freshly grated parmesan when simmering the sauce to enhance the taste.
- If the sauce gets too thick as it cools, it can be thinned down using a couple of tablespoons of stock or water and simmered for a few minutes on the stovetop or warmed up in a microwave.
- Make-ahead and Storage Instructions: This ravioli in pasta sauce dish can be easily made ahead of time. Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 5-7 days and in the freezer for up to a month. Ravioli can be reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water or stock.
- Serving suggestion: A side of salad such as this protein-packed Kale Salad and bread such as rosemary garlic focaccia goes well with a plate of ravioli.
