Butter: You can use salted or unsalted butter. This is going to give a rich flavor to the dish. If you want to cut on fat, you can reduce its amount in the recipe.
Heavy cream: This gives a creamy base for the sauce. You can even use whole milk or half and half here.
Onions and spring onions: I have flavored my green peas with chopped onions and spring onions. You can check out the other substitutes below.

Pro Tips
- The mixture thickens as it cools down. So warm it before serving, and if you find it too thick, thin it down with milk, cream, or water if desired.
- Since I made this, especially for my kids, I have not added pepper powder, red pepper flakes, or garlic powder. If you want some heat and a strong flavor profile, feel free to add them as per your taste.
- To make it even more flavorful, you can add crispy bacon bits, fried onions, potatoes, or mushrooms.
- You can even use canned peas in the recipe.
- Don't like spring onions? Skip and add some fresh herbs like mint, basil, or parsley if desired.
Storage information
Storing leftovers: Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can reheat it on the stovetop on low flame until heated through or in the microwave for 20-second intervals.
Freezing instructions: Once cooled completely, store them in a freezer bag or Ziploc bag for up to 3 months. When ready it use, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or for 3 to 4 hours at room temperature. Then, you can warm the creamed peas on the stovetop or by using a microwave.
