    4. Kids friendly and a total crowd pleaser.
    5. A flexible recipe that can be altered to your taste.
    6. A simple way to add veggies to your diet.

    Ingredients

    Ingredients for creamed peas

Green Peas: You can use fresh seasonal peas, frozen green peas or canned peas in the recipe.

Butter: You can use salted or unsalted butter. This is going to give a rich flavor to the dish. If you want to cut on fat, you can reduce its amount in the recipe.

Heavy cream: This gives a creamy base for the sauce. You can even use whole milk or half and half here.

Onions and spring onions: I have flavored my green peas with chopped onions and spring onions. You can check out the other substitutes below.

Bread bowl: You can also serve these creamed peas in a bread bowl to take them to the next level. Follow my recipe for artisan bread to make bread bowls at home. You can also use storebought sourdough bread or artisan bread of your choice if you want to make it even quicker and simple.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

    Variations

    • You can pair creamed peas with pearl onions, chopped potatoes, crispy bacon, ham, or sauteed mushrooms. You can also add grated carrots or chopped spinach for more nutrients.
    • If you like corn over peas, you can use sweet corn instead of green peas in the recipe to make creamed corn.
    • Any fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, basil, and mint can be added instead of scallion.
    • You can add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper powder, or nutmeg if you like any of them.
    • Love crispy fried onions? Garnish it on top of cream peas, and you are going to love it.

    Garnish with shredded mozzarella.

Step 9 - Top it with shredded mozzarella or other melting cheese of your choice. Broil until the cheese has melted and the top becomes golden brown.

    Pro Tips

    • The mixture thickens as it cools down. So warm it before serving, and if you find it too thick, thin it down with milk, cream, or water if desired.
    • Since I made this, especially for my kids, I have not added pepper powder, red pepper flakes, or garlic powder. If you want some heat and a strong flavor profile, feel free to add them as per your taste.
    • To make it even more flavorful, you can add crispy bacon bits, fried onions, potatoes, or mushrooms.
    • You can even use canned peas in the recipe.
    • Don't like spring onions? Skip and add some fresh herbs like mint, basil, or parsley if desired.
