I am a garlic lover, but I have realized that skipping garlic from recipes during important occasions and festivals can still make your dish delicious. For example, when trying the recipe below, you will not miss paneer butter masala at all. Trust me.
And don't get surprised with the ingredient list. I have not added anything else than the one given below. It is really simple, but the outcome is excellent. Just follow the recipe or video here.
I am a South Indian from the coastal Karnataka region, and rice is something we offer to Goddess Lakshmi in the form of naivedyam. I have therefore paired the recipe below along with a no-onion no-garlic GHEE RICE. If rice is restricted in your community during vrat days, then serve it with farali roti or chapati.
Else you can also serve it with NAAN, ROTI, CHAPATI, or other rice items such as steamed rice, JEERA RICE or GHEE RICE.

How to make vrat wale paneer curry (no onion no garlic paneer masala)
Prepare the masala
Add cashews, ginger, green chilies, red chilies, tomato, and grind it to a smooth paste in a blender or mixer.
Making of Paneer Masala
In a pan on medium heat, add oil. Once the oil becomes hot, add cumin seeds and saute for few seconds. Add the ground masala, bring it to a boil, and simmer it for 5 minutes or until oil releases. You may add little water to adjust the consistency only if required.
To this, add paneer cubes and continue to cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
Garnish it with coriander leaves and switch off the flame. It is super easy, right? Try this out today, and do share your comments.
Tips:
- I have not used butter and made it using oil. You can also make a PANEER BUTTER MASALA version by adding butter instead of oil.
- For onion garlic version of PANEER BUTTER MASALA check here.
- You can also use store-bought tomato puree or paste if needed.
- The cashews that I have added were sufficient to make my dish rich and creamy. You can substitute it with heavy cream, watermelon seeds, or almonds.
- I have used store-bought paneer today. You can even make it at home following the recipe on how to make cottage cheese or paneer at home.
- Do not overcook the paneer once you have added it to the dish. It will only make it more rubbery and chewy.
