    Avil Milk is a popular and traditional Kerala-style sweet drink made with flattened rice (poha), chilled milk, banana, and nuts.  This recipe is ready in under 10 minutes and is perfect for a healthy breakfast, a snack, or a festive drink.

    Whether you call it avil milk, aval milk, poha drink, or banana milk, this recipe is simple, filling, and incredibly satisfying. This drink is ready in 10 minutes, no cooking required, healthy and filling, great for breakfast, an evening snack, or as a perfect summer cooler.  You can also customize it with your favorite nuts, seeds, and fruits.

    Ingredients

    Avil: Thin flattened rice, also known as poha or beaten rice.

    Banana: Use ripe bananas for natural sweetness.

    Milk: Chilled or boiled, then cooled. Use plant-based milk for the vegan version.

    Sugar or jaggery: Add as desired for sweetness.

    Basil seeds (sabja seeds): Optional, but they provide a cooling effect.

    Peanuts: Add for crunch.

    Preparation

    • Sauté poha on medium flame until light golden and crispy.
    • In a bowl, add the bananas, sugar, and ice cubes, and mash them nicely.
    • Soak 1 tablespoon of basil seed in ½ cup of water.

    Assemble

    Assemble street style poha banana milk drink.
    • Add mashed banana, roasted flattened rice, soaked basil seeds, and nuts. Add chilled milk and mix until combined and creamy.
    • Garnish with additional nuts and toasted flattened rice.

    • You can add cashews or almonds instead of peanuts.

    Ingredients
      

    • 1 cup Poha thin
    • 4 Bananas small or 2 large
    • 2 to 3 tablespoon Sugar
    • ½ cup Ice cubes optional
    • 1 tablespoon Basil seed
    • ¼ cup Peanuts roasted
    • 2 tablespoon Raisins
    • 1 to 1 ½ cups Milk

    Instructions
