How long to boil corn on the cob?
Always use fresh corn. You can boil as many ears of corn on the cob as will fit in your pot or pressure cooker, with the ears fully submerged.
Just before cooking, remove the husks and silk and cut the corn into halves or 3 pieces.
Stovetop pan or pot corn on the cob
- Add water to the pot or pan and bring it to a nice boil.
- Now drop the corn and the Cajun seasoning, salt, red pepper flakes, and cayenne, and mix well. Taste check and adjust the salt and seasoning.
- Cook for 5 minutes or until the corn kernels are tender.
- Switch off the flame and keep the pan covered until you are ready to serve so that the corn stays warm.
Pressure cooker corn on the cob
- Drop the corn into the pressure cooker and add enough water to cover it.
- Add Cajun seasoning, garlic salt, red pepper flakes, cayenne, and salt to taste, then mix well. Taste check if required.
- Pressure cook for 2 whistles over medium-high heat. Let the pressure release naturally. (But if you want to serve immediately, place the cooker inside the sink and run cold water over the top side of the lid until all the pressure is released).

The exact cooking time for corn on the cob depends on the type of corn, the amount of corn, and the method you are cooking (stovetop or pressure cooker). The fresh corn may require less time, and the older one may take longer.
Tips
- Vary the amount of Cajun seasoning to taste.
- You can also brush the corn with butter just before serving if desired.
- Avoid overcooking as the corn may become chewy.
- Serve immediately while warm.
- Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator.
Recipe FAQs
Fresh sweet corn usually needs 5 to 8 minutes. Indian corn or frozen corn may take a little extra time for cooking.
