Apple Cheese Danish is an easy to make, delicious snack prepared using just 5 ingredients. This Fall treat can be served both as snack or as breakfast item with coffee/tea, or as an after-meal dessert pastry.
This can also be a great finger food for upcoming tailgating events or game nights or potluck or Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday parties!
I have used store bought puff pastry for this recipe, but feel free to use a homemade version. The store bought version made my life so easy, and I could skip the process of preparing pastry dough and then spending several anxious moments worrying about the outcome. It took me about 30 minutes to prepare these danishes (inclusive of baking time), but the entire batch disappeared in less than 30 seconds once served 🙂 This is not a joke, I am sharing this from my own experience. Last weekend we had guests visiting us last minute for coffee.
My calendar was all booked, and I had very little time to prepare something for our guests. But luckily I had a sheet of puff pastry in my freezer and some fresh apples from Farmers market. I just put everything together and delicious snacks were ready in no time. My guests not only loved the recipe but also tried making these snacks at their home and called me back telling how much they loved it.
How do you make cheese danish at home?
The recipe below is super simple to make specially when you have some frozen pastry sheets on hand. You can definitely tweak and modify the recipe to your liking. You may be substitute other fruits for apple, or make a decadent chocolate danish or even drizzle some simple icing just before serving! These danishes pair extremely well with coffee, and they are often served during breakfast buffets at restaurants. These can also be served as a light after-meal dessert. So no matter what version you prepare, make sure to click some photos and tag me on social media (Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, GooglePlus) – and you bet I will be super happy and proud about you!

For starbucks style cheese danish instead of gouda cheese you will have to use cream cheese in the recipe. I had baked it recently but it got dissapeared in no time. 🙂
- Beat 1 egg in a bowl, to this add 8 oz of cream cheese, 4 tbsp sugar, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp lemon juice and beat this until smooth and creamy.
- Fill 1 to 2 tbsp of cream cheese mixture at the center in place of gouda cheese in each pastry and top it with apples.
- Follow the same method for shaping and baking as above.

Can these be made the night before? If so, should they be refrigerated then sweet to room temp before serving in the morning?
Yes, you can prepare it the night before. It does not have to be refrigerated if you are serving within a day or two.
I love apple season. This looks like the perfect dessert, or additon to the weekened brunch. I might just make some for Thanksgiving dessert…for the silly people that do not like pumpkin pie.
