A grilled Margherita Sandwich or Pizza Sandwich is a fresh, light, and flavorful sandwich prepared using delicious white bread and your favorite classic pizza ingredients.
A cheese sandwich that is perfect for picnics, potluck, another holiday brunch, lunch, or dinner gatherings - or in other words, a sandwich that is perfect for any time of the year! I am sure you will fall in love with this recipe and make it often in your kitchen.
This is my old post where I had partnered with Pepperidge Farm® to prepare this irresistibly delicious sandwich using their Farmhouse® Hearty White Bread.
During my recent grocery shopping, I came across this New and Improved Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse® Hearty White Bread and got two packs of it. Having tried several Pepperidge Farm® products over the years, I have never been disappointed with the quality of their products, and the recipes prepared with them always turn out to be a super hit at home.
So getting their new and improved Farmhouse Hearty White Bread from my local grocer's store was a no-brainer. This thick-sliced bread has fresh from the oven taste and a softer texture. Also, this bread does not contain colors or flavors from artificial sources and does not contain high fructose corn syrup.
Best Bread for Sandwiches
My family always loves quality bread that tastes delicious, and I always stock them up in my pantry. On a busy day or lazy morning, or on those days when I am not in the mood to cook, good bread comes to my rescue. We always love to toast any pieces of bread we buy as soon as we reach home from grocery shopping. These slices were not only thick but also incredibly delicious, with amazing flavors.
Sandwiches are always easy to prepare, simple and portable. Plus, you can put anything in between just two slices of bread and make a meal out of it. I always believe that choosing the right bread plays a very important role in taking your sandwich to the next level.
It's just a coincidence that I am posting this sandwich recipe in April, which also happens to be Grilled Cheese Month. To celebrate this, I have prepared a simple Grilled Margherita Cheese Sandwich - a sandwich that contains my family's all-time favorite ingredients from a classic pizza between just two slices of bread.
Ingredients
- 12 Bread slices of your choice
- 6 tablespoon Marinara sauce
- 8 oz Fresh Mozzarella cheese, cut into slices
- 3 Large tomatoes, sliced
- Garlic powder, to taste
- Black pepper powder, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- 1 to 2 tablespoon Olive oil
- ½ cup Basil leaves or Mint leaves, loosely packed
- 6 tablespoon Butter, melted
How to make the best and easy grilled cheese sandwich
To prepare this flavorful melting cheese sandwich, start by layering bread with any store-bought marinara sauce of your choice, followed by cheese. I have used fresh mozzarella.
To easily slice fresh mozzarella, place it in the freezer for 15 minutes before you start making sandwiches. Next, use fresh tomatoes, season them with a light dusting of garlic powder, pepper powder, and some salt, drizzle olive oil and then top with fresh basil leaves. You can place big whole basil leaves or roughly tear them and add them to your sandwich.
Since I was not able to find fresh basil in any nearby grocery stores, I added mint leaves this time. It tastes equally good and flavorful. Brush the top of the bread with butter. Toast / Grill the sandwich on both sides with butter for about 2 to 4 minutes on medium flame. If you have a hard time getting fresh cheese to melt, place it in the oven for additional few minutes (2-3 minutes) at 350 F.
This sandwich tasted sensational, and my family loved it very much. I am going to make this again for a potluck party this coming weekend.
