Pineapple Sheera or Pudding is a quick and easy-to-make, melt-in-mouth delicious Indian dessert prepared in less than 20 minutes. This sweet will entice your taste buds and satisfy all your sweet cravings.
I wish all my readers a very happy Varamahalakshmi Vratha. This festival is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the one who grants boons. This festival is celebrated on the second Friday, or the Friday before full moon day (poornima), in the month of Śravaṇā.
To know more about this festival check out the Wikipedia article on Varamahalakshmi Vratham. On this day different delicacies are offered as naivedyam to please the Goddess. Some of them are chana dal sweet (also known as madgane or payasam), chane usli or tempered chickpeas, nevri or gujiya, sheera and many more.
Sheera or Rava Kesari or Sooji Ka Halwa
Sheera is one of the most popular Indian recipes offered to God in the form of naivedyam in temples and on special occasions like Diwali, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Varalakshmi vratham. The plain rava sheera or sooji sheera is also served in South India as a breakfast item in hotels along with upma, khara bath, chane usli (sandal), and poha.
On this occasion, I have prepared pineapple sheera. Generally, people avoid preparing sweets at home because it is time-consuming, and also most dessert recipes require a moderate to a high level of expertise to get a perfect outcome (here I am alluding to cooking sugar or jaggery to achieve different consistencies). But with this sweet recipe, you don't have to worry about anything. It is super easy to make and its texture and flavor will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.
You can also prepare fudge or halwa using the same recipe. Just pour the pudding as soon as it is done into a greased plate and allow it to cool down before you slice them into pieces. Do try out this recipe and let me know how it turned out.

How to make Pineapple Sheera | Pineapple Kesari Bath | Pineapple Suji Halwa
Step I
- In a pot, add water and pineapple chunks and bring it to a boil.
- Meanwhile, in another non-stick pan heat butter till it melts and becomes light golden in color, or if using ghee, just heat it. Then add chopped almonds and saute it till it becomes light in color.
- Now add the raisins, and sooji and saute on medium to medium-low flame for 3 to 4 minutes stirring continuously till you get a nice aroma.
Step II
- To the sauteed sooji/semolina, add the pineapple puree, boiling water with pineapple chunks, and saffron strands and stir continuously on a medium flame for 2 to 4 minutes.
- Next, add sugar and continue cooking for another 3 to 5 minutes stirring continuously. Finally add cardamom powder, mix, and switch off the flame
- Pineapple Sheera or halwa is now ready. Garnish it with more almonds, raisins, and saffron strands if desired. Serve and enjoy.
Tips:
- I also add cashew nuts sometimes. Use your favorite dry fruits and nuts.
- To cut down the fat, I have reduced the butter or ghee to 2 tbsp. You may add up to ¼ cup or as desired.
- Vary the number of Kesar strands as desired.
- You can also transfer the hot sheera to a greased plate about ½ inch deep. Allow it to cool completely and then cut them into squares so that you can serve them as halwa or fudge.
- Add pineapple chunks to the blender and blend them to form a puree. Only if you find it difficult to pulse, add tablespoon of water in increments.
- The amount of sugar can be varied depending on the sweetness of the pineapple.
