    Ingredients

This salsa uses basic minimal ingredients from your kitchen, including fresh, sweet, and ripe mangoes, red and green bell pepper, red onions, cilantro or coriander leaves, salt, and juice of lemon or lime.

ingredients used to make mango salsa.

    Variations

Mango pineapple salsa: Add 1 cup of chunks of pineapple to the recipe to make a delicious tropical salsa.
Mango avocado salsa: Add one avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced, to the above mixture.
Mango habanero salsa: Love spicy mango salsa? Then add finely chopped habanero to the salsa mixture.
Mango corn salsa: Add a cup of corn to the salsa mixture. Kids are going to love this version.
Tomato mango salsa: Add finely chopped 1 or 2 tomatoes or cherry tomatoes to make tangy and fruity salsa.
Mango lime salsa: Along with lime, add freshly grated lime zest to the salsa to make it even more flavorful.
Mango cilantro salsa: The recipe is the same as above. If desired, you can increase the amount of cilantro if you like prominent herbs flavors.
Qdoba mango salsa: Add chopped cucumber and jalapeno with a pinch of sugar along with mangoes, onion, bell pepper, cilantro, and lime.

    Tips

    • Because my kids love mangoes and mango recipes, I have not added jalapeno to avoid the heat. Instead, I added green bell pepper. If you are not serving this for kids, add jalapeno, habanero, or serrano to make it spicy.

    Recipe FAQS

    Can you freeze mango salsa?

Salsa tastes the best when made fresh and served within 24 hours. However, you can refrigerate for 4 to 5 if there are any leftovers which I doubt as they are so delicious and addictive.
Homemade mango salsa can also be kept in the freezer for two months. Note that the texture will change as the fruit and veggies won't be firm as when made fresh. A little more water may be released from veggies and fruits in the conatiner once the salsa returns to room temperature. Drain the extra juice before using it as a dip for chips.

Which mangoes are best for salsa?

Any ripe mangoes will work for mango salsa. See that they are fresh, sweet, and juicy. Unripe ones will not taste good for salsa. Frozen mangoes can be used, but the texture of the salsa will be different from the fresh ones.

Can I make mango salsa ahead of time?

Yes! You can make this salsa ahead of time and store it in an airtight conatiner in the refrigerator. This also gives a chance for flavors to mingle.

What is the difference between mango salsa and mango chutney?

Salsa is a mixture of fresh vegetables like onion, pepper, lime juice, jalapeno, cilantro, and herbs, while chutney is a condiment that uses vinegar along with vegetables and sometimes garlic to enhance the dish's flavor.
