Blueberry Mojito is a refreshing and flavorful drink that is perfect for hot summer days. The recipe can be prepared in under 10 minutes and comes under 150 calories per serving.
I am presenting a non-alcoholic drink or a mocktail recipe here, but you may as well add a splash of your favorite rum and surprise your guest at your next cocktail party.
About Blueberry Mojito
Whenever my friends host cocktail parties, I get last-minute calls for drink recipes for guests who are teetotalers. I am sure some of you may have been in a similar situation, especially if you are hosting a party at the very last minute. But, take it from me that it is indeed very easy to wow your guests with simple drink recipes like this one.
In my high-school days, whenever I dined at restaurants with family, my default drink order used to be either lime soda or lassi. During my college days, I tried virgin mojito for the first time at a KFC outlet in India. I loved the muddled lime and mint flavor, mildly sweetened with simple syrup and topped with sparkling water. Simple flavors come together and make this drink irresistible.
After coming to the United States, I regularly prepared many varieties of simple drink recipes using seasonal fruits. When blueberries are in season (or use frozen berries), their addition to a drink like a mojito is like a match made in heaven. Do try out this simple drink recipe at the next party. I am sure that the color, flavor, and taste will make you prepare this drink often.
If you love to prepare simple drinks at home, then check out the following recipes.
Ingredients for Blueberry Mojito
- Use fresh blueberries if they are available in season. Else, feel free to use frozen blueberries. You can also use strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc.
- Mint leaves are a must when preparing mojito. If you do not like herbs like mint, then feel free to leave it out. Other fresh herbs, such as basil, rosemary or thyme, can also be used.
- Blueberry puree - blend fresh or thawed blueberries to form a thick, smooth paste. Adding this to the drink gives it a pleasant blue/purple color. The same process can be used to prepare puree of other berries. You can also use blueberry compote or jam if available.
- Simple syrup is used to sweeten the drink. Use other sweeteners such as honey or agave nectar if preferred.
- Use freshly squeezed Lemon juice or Lime juice. The flavors of blueberry and lime really go well together. You can also use store-bought lemon/lime juice if needed.
- Crushed ice is used for instantly cooling down the drink. Ice cubes can also be used, but they will cool the drink relatively slowly. If you don't like your drinks extra cold, skip crushed ice from the recipe.
- Cold Sparkling water / Soda is used to prepare the drink. Alternatively, you can also add Ginger Ale or Sprite or 7-Up.
- Blueberries, Lemon slices, and Fresh Mint leaves for garnish. If unavailable, these can be skipped.
- The recipe below is a non-alcoholic mocktail version of Blueberry Mojito. For preparing a blueberry cocktail recipe, use White Rum.
Refer to the recipe card for a complete list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

Expert Tips
- For the blueberry puree, wash and add blueberries with little water in a blender, and blend it to a smooth puree.
- Add sugar or any other sweetener for desired sweetness if using plain soda water. You can also use Sprite or other similarly flavored fizzy drinks.
- You can add any fresh fruit of your choice.
- You can add a splash of rum to make this drink alcoholic.
Make Ahead or Storage Instructions
If you are making a large batch of blueberry mojito pitcher, first muddle together fresh/thawed blueberries and mint leaves. To this, add blueberry puree/compote, sweetener (simple syrup), and lemon juice, and mix well. Store this in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
When ready to serve, add a portion of the above mixture to the serving glass, add crushed ice and white rum (for the cocktail version), and top it with sparkling water. Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves and enjoy!
FAQs
White Rum (silver or blanco) is best suited for mojitos. Using aged white rum will add a distinctive smokiness to the drink.
At restaurants, they add blue food coloring to give the drink its signature electric blue color.
Both work well. If using Sprite, then make sure you skip the addition of simple syrup and reduce the amount of lemon juice as per your preference.
While rum adds a tropical fruity note to the drink, Vodka can be substituted in its place to prepare a delicious glass of mojito cocktail.
