Indian breakfast recipes given below are some of my favorite; they are easy-to-make, healthy, and quick to prepare.
Breakfast is a very important meal of the day, and therefore it is good to have a well-balanced one. This page is all about some of the delicious vegetarian breakfast recipes prepared in Indian households on a day-to-day basis.
I will keep updating this post whenever possible, but you can check for all my new breakfast recipe ideas here.
Some of the recipes can be made ahead of time, some are instant, and some require the preparation of batter, which can be used to make a variety of breakfast items for the entire week - one of the best item for busy mornings.
Each region in India has different specialties and variations to each item below, so I don't think there is a standard recipe. All I know is Indian breakfast is broadly classified into 2 categories - North Indian and South Indian. There are again variations in eastern and western parts.
South Indian breakfast typically consists of Idli, Dosa, Vada, Sambar, Chutney, Upma, Poori, Pongal, Bisi Bele Bath, Appam, Idiyappam, etc.
North Indian breakfast mainly consists of Paratha and Roti, Dhokla, Khakhras, etc.
But there are variations too, like kande pohe, poha, thalipeeth, toast, omelette, undi, buns, paniyaram, etc. I am sharing some of the popular and easy recipes that we prepare on a daily basis.

Ingredients
Ingredients for my 2 in 1 Dosa Batter and Idli Batter
- 2 cups Rice
- 1 cup Urad Dal
- 1 teaspoon Methi or Fenugreek seeds
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
How to make dosa batter
- First you will have to soak rice and dal.
- Blend or grind the dosa batter and ferment 8 hours or oevrnight.
- Next morning you can make different varieties of dosas and idlis. More detailed tips and tricks are shared in a separate post here.
